En nuestro ritual previamente hemos apagado todos los fuegos existentes en nuestra tribu o comunidad, como una forma simb'olica que representa la ausencia de 'este. Al amanecer cuando el alba empiece a despuntar sobre la primera ma~nana del verano, encenderemos ritualmente nuestro fuego donde regeneraremos nuestra propia vitalidad espiritual. Nuestros antepasados realizaban un ritual, pasando tanto ellos como su ganado, por entre el humo en un rito de limpieza y purificaci'on. El fuego era y es s'imbolo divino, el Padre Sol.La festividad se celebra con bailes, danzas, dando vueltas a la hoguera para procurarse suerte hasta la siguiente celebraci'on, visti'endose con ropa estampada con flores y engalan'andose con guirnaldas los cabellos y luciendo cintas de colores. Los enamorados se pierden en los bosques y campos, bes'andose y portando flores y ramas de 'arboles. La Vida renace esa noche por doquier. Una de las antiguas costumbres consiste en levantarse antes de que el sol aparezca, despu'es de una vigilia en los bosques sagrados, donde se participa en los ritos de Beltane, se va a alguna colina cercana, para observar la salida del sol y ba~narse en sus vivificadores rayos. Dicho ba~no puede tomarse tambi'en de una forma m'as simb'olica, ba~n'andose en fuentes sagradas y manantiales en los cuales los rayos sol han quedado atrapados o bebiendo el agua de estos o de pozos tambi'en sagrados, donde la luz cosmological ha quedado retenida. Los ancestros aconsejaban que se bebiera el agua de esos manantiales antes de la salida del sol, que se lavaran con el roc'io de la ma~nana y se adornaran con flores. Todo este ritual es para danzar en torno del 'arbol de mayo, dej'andose llevar por la festividad estacional. El roc'io que se recoge en las ma~nanas de Beltane se guarda con el fin de utilizarlo en posteriores rituales. El roc'io en su concepto m'agico es considerado una esencia destilada de la Tierra por medio del fuego (el sol), una alquimia de la naturaleza espiritual de la Madre Tierra, en cuyo seno los manantiales y arroyos representan los 'organos femeninos de ella con sus propiedades curativas.Nuestros ancestros escog'ian a una "Doncella de la Flor" tambi'en denominada "Reina de Mayo", que era la representante simb'olica en esta fiesta, de la Diosa en uno de sus triples aspectos de transformaci'on, de virgen a madre. En medio del ritual de m'usica y danza se simula la uni'on de la diosa con el 'arbol de mayo, que seg'un la ubicaci'on de la tribu, puede ser un tronco de abedul como en Gales, un espino en ciertas partes de Breta~na, o un acebo como en Eire, adem'as del pap, pero todos ellos representando un atributo f'alico. Como fiesta que es de fertilidad y de liberaci'on sexual, est'a dedicada tambi'en a la uni'on entre parejas o casamiento. La pareja reci'en unida consume esa uni'on en alg'un lugar del bosque, con el benepl'acito de la tribu entera, que en diversas ocasiones se suman con sus parejas respectivas a la celebraci'on.

Asimismo, se percib'ia en esta festividad, la intenci'on de reforzar los v'inculos de las tribus y de los clanes. Los ancestros se reun'ian en estos acontecimientos masivamente, lo cual serv'ia para fomentar alianzas entre tribus y fortalecer los lazos entre clanes y familias. Durante dichas celebraciones no hab'ia una sola refriega entre ellos y las armas estaban prohibidas. A esto se le sumaba el componente m'agico con sus liturgias rituales lo que convert'ia a Beltane en una comuni'on que rebasaba la simple fiesta.Hacia el final del festejo la persona que oficia el fest'in presenta una gran torta o bollo horneado con huevos festoneando el borde, llamada "Am-Bonach-Beal-Tine" (el gran ignite de Beltane), lo dividen en cierto n'umero de trozos y lo distribuyen solemnemente entre los reunidos, hay un trozo especial y al que le toca en suerte lo llaman "Cailleach-Beal-Tine" o el Carline de Beltane, palabra de gran oprobio. En cuanto lo saben, parte del grupo hace el adem'an de quererlo tirar al fuego, pero la mayor'ia se interpone y le protege. Mientras la fiesta est'a todav'ia la gente habla del "Cailleach-Beal-Tine" como de un muerto.El color central de Beltane es el verde, el color de la abundancia, del crecimiento, la cosecha que crece, la fertilidad y la suerte. El blanco tambi'en es un color que se acostumbra a vestir en esta fecha ya que desprende energ'ia positiva y significa pureza, paz, espiritualidad y el poder de alejar la negatividad. El rojo es la fuerza, la tensi'on sexual, la consumaci'on, la salud. Y el amarillo representa el Sol, la fuerza de la Vida y la felicidad. Los azules y los p'urpuras devienen la magia, el poder del esp'iritu, la buena fortuna, el 'exito, el avance. Finalmente, el rosa es el color del amor y de la belleza. Es pues, una celebraci'on rica en colores que hacen vibrar el esp'iritu y lo elevan.Cernunnos, en Beltane es despedido para que se convierta en una parte real del mundo de las plantas y animales en nuestro propio medio. Convirti'endose de esta manera en el se~nor y esp'iritu de todas las cosas salvajes.Mayo es el mes de la sensualidad y de la sexualidad, del despertar de los sentidos, del renacimiento de la Tierra y sus hijos. Recordemos que este mes est'a consagrado a la Diosa como mes de las flores y mes de la madre. Mayo toma su nombre de la Diosa de la naturaleza romana llamada "Maia".
